Brief description: "Prof Hayman will discuss his and his team's work on multi-disciplinary approaches to decreasing the risk of emerging infectious diseases. He will use case studies, such as from work in Uganda, to highlight how transdisciplinary work comprising experts from laboratory sciences, medicine, veterinary science, ecology and sociology address complex health issues from multiple perspectives."

Prof David Hayman’s work has focused on emerging and endemic infectious diseases which primarily cause serious human illness (e.g., Ebola virus disease (EVD), Covid-19, rabies), are highly contagious (e.g., measles and giardiasis) or cause serious ecological problems (e.g., EVD, white-nose syndrome in bats). He is on numerous committees, including the One Health High Level Expert Panel (OHHLEP), providing expertise to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH, formerly OIE), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
