Abstracts Submissions are now closed

The Conference Committee welcomes submissions for oral presentations and poster presentations. Themes for the conference have been designed to provide specific sessions to attract architects and engineers in addition to researchers and biosafety managers.

  • Lab acquired infections to include new diseases

  • Targeted pathogen risk

  • Training, governance and maintenance of training

  •  Biocontainment, including large animals (waste and decontamination)
  •  Macrobiological hazards
  • Software updates: How we govern and maintain biosafety (to include training methods for onboarding new staff)
  • Plants: Import/export issues, facilities and containment, field trials
  • Compliance and regulation changes
  • New facilities/design trends
  • Open theme for any biocontainment or biosafety topic that does not fit into the themes above

The Neil Walls Scholarship for attendance at the 8th Annual Conference

The Neil Walls Scholarship is named in recognition of the effort and support that Neil Walls (one of our founding members) provided ABSANZ during the establishment years, and his dedication given to ABSANZ over many years.

ABSANZ is very pleased to be able to offer a scholarship to subsidise one delegate to attend the ABSANZ 8th Annual Conference. Successful applicants must be a 2018 ABSANZ member and be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia or New Zealand. Previous recipients are not eligible to apply. Applicants must prepare either a non-commercial poster or short ten-minute presentation at the conference (see abstract submission guidelines above). 

Applicants will receive up to $2000.00 towards travel, accommodation and conference registration. 

Applicants must apply in writing, no longer than one A4 page in length, stating the organisation, position and work/duties of the applicant and the reason for the application for a scholarship. Applications must be sent to the Executive Officer in email:  execofficer@absanz.org.au on or before 10 May 2018.

Oral Presentations 

Oral presentations will be scheduled on Wednesday 31 October and Thursday 1 November. Each accepted presentation will be offered between 15 and 20 minutes to present, plus time for questions.

Poster Presentations 

A formal graphic presentation of a topic, to be displayed on Wednesday 31 October and Thursday 1 November. Sessions times will be organised for presenters to be at their posters to discuss their work and receive feedback. Posters must be no larger than A0 size (84.1cm wide × 118.9cm high) and portrait orientation.  Posters need to be submitted and marked as Commercial if provided by an Exhibitor or Sponsor.

  • Best Oral Presentation - Biocontainment: $250 plus certificate
  • Best Oral Presentation - Biosafety: $250 plus certificate
  • Best Poster (Non-Commercial): $250 plus certificate
